Georgian Mourning Ring with Garnet Halo in 18K Yellow Gold
Here is a truly special Georgian Era Mourning Ring. This ring features a glazed compartment with halo of old cut deep pink-purple garnets. The centerpiece features a small bit of cloth with woven hair in the form of growing plants - it is designed to resemble a piece of "picture agate" or dendritic agate. Dendritic agate was commonly used for the focal point of this ring type, the hairwork alternative is poignant and interesting. The reverse of the face is hand engraved and reads "When this you see, Remember me." The shank of this ring was added at a later date and is stamped for 18K yellow gold and 840. This ring is over 200 years old and does have visible wear, including one small missing garnet and some discoloration to the cloth. This exceptional antique ring will make an excellent addition to any mourning jewelry collection.
