Here is a beautiful little antique pyrite specimen brooch. This fantastic piece is from a time when "fools gold" wasn't for fools. This Early Victorian brooch boasts a beautiful crimped collet setting. The back of the brooch has a natural "cracked" texture of the raw stone that has been "Japanned," - which is an early type of black enamel that was sometimes used in jewelry making. The brooch has an antique C-style clasp with a tube hinge in great working condition. Brooches like this were often worn at the collar of a blouse or dress.     • Gold metal presents a patina and some discoloration where C clasp meets the body of the pin.
    • As mentioned the pyrite has notarially occurring cracks- however this stone is stable in the setting and sturdy and ready to wear.

The Condition Report

An item must be 100 years old or older to be considered antique. This means many antiques may have age-related wear. We chalk it up to character and love it, but it is essential that we fully describe any wear, no matter how minor. Each piece is carefully inspected, tested, and fully described before it lands in the shop.
